What is the Non-Life Insurance market in Spain?
In December 2024 the insurance market comprised in terms of Spanish entities 114 limited liability companies, 28 mutuals, 31 social welfare mutuals and three specialist reinsurers. Of the 176 entities, 91 were dedicated to non-life while 26 composites wrote both life and non-life. There were also 74 branches of foreign insurers, all except three of which were from EEA countries. In addition, 815 companies were registered to write business under freedom of services arrangements.
In the Non-Life (P&C) market, MAPFRE Espana, Compania de Seguros y Reaseguros, S.A. was the market leader, recording EUR 5,786.18 million in written premiums and 13.61% market share in 2024. It was followed by Segurcaixa Adeslas S.A. de Seguros y Reaseguros (EUR 4,934.61 million; 11.60% market share) and AXA Seguros Generales de Seguros y Reaseguros SA (EUR 2,313.46 million; 5.44% market share).
Among the leading non-life insurers, Santander Vida, de Seguros y Reaseguros reported the strongest growth, with premiums increasing 118.2% year-on-year. 114 companies are licensed for non-life business.

Of the 853 companies registered to write business under freedom of services arrangements, 685 were non-life and 19 composites.
